About Haikoubu Historic Wharf
The Duanfen township government's own page records that the market was founded in the third year of the Qing Xianfeng reign, by ten allied clans, first named 'Ten-Household Market'. Early emigrants from Duanfen departed by barge from the Haikoubu wharf to Guanghai Bay, where they transferred to ocean-going ships; because Duanfen people called the river 'the sea', the place became known as Haikoubu, meaning sea-mouth wharf.
The site is presented around yinxin (overseas Chinese remittance-letter) culture and qiaoxiang, emigrant-home, culture, with a memorial square, a row of yinxin pillars, a Yinxin Museum, a 6.3-kilometre riverside path linking Haikoubu to Meijia Dayuan and a 7.5-kilometre overland stretch of ancient post road. The township government's page records that Haikoubu has been designated a national AAA tourist area and a provincial culture and tourism specialty village, among other provincial and municipal tourism designations.
