Shenzhen 深圳

Shenzhen can be read through contrasting districts: the Civic Center museums explain its recent transformation, Overseas Chinese Town brings together large leisure attractions, and Dapeng preserves a much older fortified settlement in the east.

About Shenzhen

These places are spread across a large city, so choosing a theme is more useful than collecting distant landmarks in one day.

For a first visit, the History and Folk Culture branch of Shenzhen Museum supplies context through local-history displays and a recreated traditional street. A second outing can focus on the landmark models at Window of the World or the walls and lanes of Dapeng. The latter is a separate eastern excursion, not a short walk from the downtown skyline.

What to look for

  • Shenzhen Museum’s Civic Center branch includes local-history galleries and a recreated street.
  • Window of the World displays reduced-scale international landmarks.
  • Dapeng Fortress preserves walls and old village lanes in the eastern coastal area.

The surrounding area

A separate major city for waterfront leisure, contemporary urban life, Nantou and longer excursions toward Dapeng.

Location & getting there

Getting to Shenzhen

Civic Center station is a useful named arrival point for a museum-led introduction to Futian. Window of the World station serves the Overseas Chinese Town theme-park area. Plan a separate road connection if extending to Dapeng Fortress.

General visit reminders

Use the Chinese name and exact local address when arranging your arrival. A city, district or neighbourhood can cover a wide area, so choose the particular streets or venues you want to visit and group nearby stops together. Check onward and return connections before committing to a distant extension.

Combine your visit

Suggested order for the visit:

  1. Shenzhen Museum at Civic Center

Begin with the city’s local history.

  2. Window of the World深圳世界之窗

Use a separate metro transfer for the theme-park district.

  3. Dapeng Fortress on another outing

Allow a dedicated eastern road excursion.
