About Mulong Lake
The eastern side includes surviving Song-period city-wall fabric, while the buildings beside the water use a Song-inspired design. That distinction is central to the visit: look separately at the older wall and the later themed architecture. The park can be experienced on land or viewed as part of certain lake cruises, but a passing boat view and admission to the park are different experiences.
Mulong Lake is an artificial lake formed in 1998 as part of the Two Rivers, Four Lakes (两江四湖) project, which connected the Li River to the city's inner lakes; the resulting lake is about 1100 meters long, 100 meters wide and 2 meters deep, covering about 11 hectares. It takes its name from Mulong Cave (木龙洞) on its northern side.
The lake lies at the northern foot of Diecai Hill (叠彩山) in Diecai district, bounded by the Li River to the east, Zhongshan North Road to the west, Diecai Hill to the south and Dongzhen Road to the north, and forms part of the city's Two Rivers, Four Lakes ring waterway.
What to look for
- The eastern city-wall remains contrast with the later Song-inspired waterfront buildings.
- The lake and nearby limestone hills create the setting around the built ensemble.
