About Shanmu River
Shibing Karst is Guizhou's third World Natural Heritage site, mainly covering the Yuntaishan, Heichong and Shanmuhe areas over a total 282.95 square kilometres of diverse plant and animal ecosystems and water conservation land. The Guizhou Provincial Forestry Bureau describes Shanmuhe's scenic area as distinguished by clear, sparkling stream water and canyon scenery of unusual peaks and rocks with fragrant grass and fine trees; it is a national AAAA tourist attraction, named a 'National Quality Tourism Area', one of 'Guizhou's Ten Most Charming Tourist Destinations' and 'China's Best Rafting Destination'.
Since the site's 2014 World Heritage inscription, managers have set up six protection stations along the river, completed 75 boundary markers, posted warning signage at crossings, and built digital monitoring systems at the river's source in Chayuan village, Maxi township, and around the buffer-zone perimeter.
