About Taoyuan River Gorge

The Xiuwen county culture and tourism bureau gives the scenic area as about 16 square kilometres with forest cover above 70 per cent, and a national 4A-grade tourist scenic area. Clear water runs through it, and the bureau lists lake, mountain, river, cave, spring, waterfall, gorge and fossils among its natural features. Within the winding gorge are strange peaks, cliffs and falling springs which the bureau attributes to several hundred thousand years of crustal change. The county bureau also quotes a quatrain it attributes to Wang Yangming, written when he came here, which asks where Taoyuan is and answers that it lies in the deepest part of the western peaks.

The Guiyang municipal culture and tourism bureau describes the place as a gorge scenic area combining rafting, water play, forest health tourism, catering and accommodation, conferences, hot springs, leisure and study visits, and puts the rafting course at about 10 km with a drop of more than 200 m. Rapids, sharp bends and drops are set along it, and the municipal account names sections of the run as cave rafting, wave rafting and passion rafting. The county bureau lists a health path, camping bases, a sightseeing train and hot springs among the facilities in the scenic area.
