Dongzhaigang is a coastal mangrove wetland around Yanfeng in Haikou’s Meilan District. Its visitor area introduces trees and wildlife adapted to a shore that changes with the tide. The tourism route occupies a managed part of a much larger protected environment; a ticket or a boardwalk does not give access to all of the reserve.

The visitor facilities described by Haikou’s Jiangdong authority include a raised science boardwalk, an observation tower and boat-based viewing. At higher water, mangrove trunks appear to rise directly from the bay; at lower water, roots and mud become easier to see. Interpretation draws attention to animals such as mudskippers and fiddler crabs, making the small details as interesting as the overall green canopy.

Compare the same patch of shore from a stable viewpoint rather than stepping off the route. Watch how roots occupy the mud and where birds choose to feed or rest. A boat ride gives a different perspective, but its availability and route depend on the operator and conditions, so plan it as a separate part of the visit.
