About Hejian Government Office
Its successive gates and main halls recreate the spatial distinction between a public approach, official hearings and work deeper inside the compound. Read it as an interpretation of the old institution rather than a surviving Song-dynasty building. The central axis gives the clearest visit: compare the ceremonial gate and first hall with the second and third halls behind them.
What to look for
- The reconstructed central sequence of screen wall, main gate, ceremonial gate and audience halls.
- The contrast between the main hearing hall and the deeper second- and third-hall courtyards.
