About Jiulong Gorge
Cliffs, narrow valleys, waterfalls and pools give the area its main character. Forest covers much of the surrounding mountain country, while exposed red rock makes the steep valley walls particularly noticeable. The attraction is a group of connected mountain scenes rather than a single waterfall.
Seasonal vegetation is another defining feature. Wild peach blossom colours the slopes in spring, and smoke trees and five-lobed maples contribute autumn colour. Under sufficiently cold winter conditions, water freezes into icefalls and hanging formations along the cliffs. These are seasonal features of the landscape, with their appearance dependent on weather and water conditions.
