About Tangshan Nanhu Park
Mining subsidence left this part of the city with depressed ground, polluted water and areas used for dumping waste. Restoration began in the 1990s and combined water cleanup, planting and the reshaping of damaged land. Fenghuangtai, or Phoenix Terrace, is a particularly clear example: its landscaped hill developed from a former rubbish mound.
Nanhu hosted the Tangshan World Horticultural Exposition in 2016. Taohua Tan, Yunfeng Island, the cherry-blossom avenue and Phoenix Terrace show how lakes, planted scenery and raised viewpoints now structure the park. The site's interest lies as much in this change of land use as in its present waterside landscape.
