About Yunmeng Mountain
Qi County was anciently called Zhaoge, is described as one of the places where Shang culture originated, and is the setting of the Investiture of the Gods stories. Within it Yunmengshan is called the first ancient military academy of China: local and municipal accounts hold that Guiguzi, personal name Wang Chan, a thinker, diplomatist and military theorist of the Warring States, taught here, and that Su Qin, Zhang Yi, Sun Bin, Pang Juan and Mao Sui were trained under him. This is a transmitted tradition rather than an excavated finding, and it is what the mountain's reputation rests on.
The rock of the mountain carries a body of cliff inscriptions, dated in the national schedule from the Song through to the Republican period. Those inscriptions were listed by the State Council in 2006 in the sixth batch of national key cultural heritage protection units. The mountain is also one of Hebi's 4A-rated scenic areas, registered by the province at that grade.
