About Plover Cove Reservoir Walks
Plover Cove Reservoir occupies a former coastal inlet in northeastern Hong Kong, with its main dam reached from Tai Mei Tuk. The long straight dam creates a strong visual division: sheltered reservoir water lies on one side and the sea on the other. It is a useful place to understand how water infrastructure reshaped the coast.
The reservoir was developed in the 1960s by separating an area of sea from the surrounding waters. From the dam, the open views take in water, hills and the changing shoreline. This relatively accessible dam visit must be distinguished from the Plover Cove Reservoir Country Trail, which follows a much longer and more demanding route through undulating hills with limited opportunities to replenish supplies.
Choose the route before judging the difficulty. For a short visit, a return walk along an appropriate part of the main dam can focus on the contrast between sea and reservoir. A full country-trail outing requires separate preparation and should not be inferred from photographs of the flat dam.
