About Temple Street

Rows of stalls, merchandise displays and food businesses give the street a different appearance as the market becomes active. Its name comes from the Tin Hau temple in the neighbourhood, connecting the market setting with an older community landmark.

Walk the market at a pace that leaves room to look at the stall displays and the surrounding permanent shops. The appeal is the changing street scene rather than any guaranteed bargain. A food stop can be part of the circuit, with the day’s open stalls and restaurants determining the practical route.

What to look for

  • Market stalls and illuminated merchandise displays transform the street setting in the evening.
  • The Tin Hau temple connection adds a community landmark to the wider market neighbourhood.

Background & history

It is known for its night market and is one of the busiest flea markets at night in the territory. The night market lies in the Yau Ma Tei, Jordan part of the street. Popular with tourists and locals alike in the evening, it is also common to see the place crowded at dusk. It sells cheap merchandise and food items. The place is sometimes known as "Men's Street".
