About Longzhong
Wuhou Shrine, Sangu Hall and the academy give different architectural forms to that story. They include later rebuilding and interpretation, so the site is best read as centuries of remembrance around a famous historical tradition. Look for the relationship between the memorial buildings, cultivated-ground motifs and hillside setting, rather than expecting a preserved original thatched house from the Three Kingdoms period.
Longzhong is a scenic area covering 209 square kilometers, located about 13 kilometers from Xiangyang, Hubei. It combines man-made landscapes with its natural surroundings; the Ming dynasty formalized ten features of the area as the ‘Longzhong Ten Scenes’, and further structures, including Zhuge Caolu and Guanxing Tai, have been added since the founding of the People's Republic.
The site was first listed as a Hubei provincial cultural heritage site in 1956, under the name ‘Longzhong Zhuge Liang Former Residence’ (隆中诸葛亮故居). In 1994 it was designated a national key scenic spot, and in 1996 it was listed, as Gulongzhong (古隆中), among the fourth batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level (全国重点文物保护单位).
