About Shangyong Ancient Town and Shengshui Lake
Zhushan County was known in antiquity as Shangyong and is recorded as the site of the capital of the ancient state of Yong; the present name has been in use for 1,472 years. That history is the organising theme of the site: the resort zone is promoted under the line 'explore the ancient state of Yong, take your holiday at Shengshui Lake', and its main components are the rebuilt ancient town and a wetland park on the lake.
The Hubei culture and tourism department named Shengshui Lake a provincial tourist resort zone in its 2021 list, the first such designation in Zhushan County. The zone has a core area of 8 square kilometres and has absorbed roughly 410 million yuan of construction investment since its first project opened in 2015. More than twenty individual attractions have been laid out, among them the Shangyong Culture Exhibition Park, Sansheng Courtyard, the Huangzhou Guild Hall, Guyong Terrace, a water-sports base, a wetland interpretation hall and a greenway that runs around the lake.
What to look for
- The Shangyong Culture Exhibition Park, the resort zone's main interpretive building for the history of the Yong state.
