About Yinshawan Desert

The river gives Yinshawan a landscape of three closely spaced elements: sand to the north, water through the middle and hills to the south. This arrangement is the site's most distinctive feature, bringing a river corridor directly alongside the dunes.

The sand is fine and pale, with steep dune faces above the river landscape. The contrast between these bright slopes and the hills across the water gives the scenic area its particular character within the wider Tamin Chagan Desert.

What to look for

  • Fine, pale sand and the steep faces of the northern dunes.
  • The Yangchumu River running through the scenic area.
  • The hills south of the river, visible in contrast with the northern sand.
