About Jiulongkou Scenic Area
The name evokes nine water dragons gathering around Longzhu Island, the 'dragon pearl' at the convergence. From ground level, the landscape is a pattern of channels, open water and reed beds; the full radial arrangement is most clearly understood from the site's aerial photographs.
Neighbouring Shazhuang village has been adapted into Huaiju Opera Town. Its traditional-style streets combine restored fabric and newer construction, creating settings for Huaiju opera and Jianhu acrobatics. Dongsheng Bridge and the waterside lanes provide a built counterpart to the wetland scenery.
