About Yixing Ceramics Museum and Dingshu Gunan Street
The museum's expanded galleries, opened after renovation in December 2022, cover ceramic history and include dedicated sections for ancient ceramics, juntao and zisha purple-clay pottery. These different traditions give a broader view of Yixing ceramics than teapots alone.
Gunan Street runs on old flagstones beside the Li River at the foot of Shushan, among white-walled, dark-roofed buildings. It has been a centre of purple-clay making and commerce since the Ming and Qing periods. Potters including Xu Xiutang and Gu Jingzhou lived along the street, linking its residential setting to the craft's modern history.
