About Mount Yushan and Shanghu Lake
Yushan's named features include the rocks at Jianmen and Xingfu Temple. Its wider cultural associations with poetry, painting, qin music and seal carving give the mountain a place in Changshu's artistic history as well as its physical skyline.
Shanghu supplies the water setting of the combined destination. Islands break up the open lake, with smaller expanses of water enclosed within them; this arrangement gives the lake scenery a different scale and structure from Yushan's rocky slopes.
What to look for
- Jianmen's rock formations on Yushan.
- Xingfu Temple within the mountain's cultural landscape.
- Shanghu's pattern of open water, islands and water enclosed by islands.
