About Cradle of the Republic Scenic Area

Ruijin's own disclosure of protected monuments inside graded scenic areas names the four components: the Yeping zone, the Red Well zone at Shazhouba, the zone around the auditorium used for the Second National Soviet Congress, and the Chinese Soviet Memorial Park, whose southern garden holds the Central Revolutionary Base Area History Museum and whose northern garden holds the Ruijin Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall. Most of the buildings are national key cultural heritage protection units. At Yeping the site of the First National Congress of Soviets, the Red Army Martyrs Memorial Tower, the Red Army review stand, Bosheng Fort, the Gonglue Pavilion and the former office of the CCP Soviet Area Central Bureau were listed in 1961; a further group, including the former State Bank of the Chinese Soviet Republic, the Red China News Agency, the Red Army wireless corps, the Central Publishing Bureau, the state treasury and the post office, was listed in 2006.

The Shazhouba zone holds the former Central People's Committee and Central Executive Committee buildings and the Red Well, all listed in 1961, with the people's commissariats of food and of land and the Central Audit Commission added in 2006; the former Lenin Primary School there is a municipal protected unit listed in 2014. The well itself was dug in September 1933, after Mao Zedong arrived at Shazhouba that April and found villagers drinking pond water; it is about 85 centimetres across and some five metres deep. In 1950 local people repaired it, named it the Red Well and set a wooden tablet beside it saying that those who drink the water should not forget who dug it; the tablet was later replaced by a stone stele. In the third zone the auditorium of the provisional central government, where the Second National Soviet Congress met, was listed in 1961, and the former Central Revolutionary Museum building in 2006. The Longzhu Pagoda in the memorial park is a provincial protected unit listed in 1987.
