About Lafa Mountain
Lafa Mountain rises near Jiaohe as a distinctive, comparatively isolated mountain with a conical profile. Forested slopes, exposed rock and natural caves make it recognisable from both a distance and along its visitor routes. Its identity is tied to the combination of the overall mountain shape and the smaller spaces within it.
Named caves include Chuanxin, Taihe, Taiji and Tongtian in the provincial landscape account. They provide different ways to experience the rock mass, contrasting enclosed passages or chambers with open views from the slopes. The wider visitor area also contains interpretation of the Lafa–Xinzhan battle, adding a separate modern historical theme.
Begin with a view of the mountain’s outline, then connect the caves encountered on the route with that larger form. Notice how light changes at an opening and how trees occupy ledges around exposed rock. Historical displays deserve their own reading; they explain events associated with the area rather than the origin of its geological formations.
What to look for
- Recognise the mountain’s conical outline.
- Compare natural cave openings with the surrounding rock.
- Read the Lafa–Xinzhan battle interpretation as a separate historical layer.
