About Songhua Lake

The changing shorelines, wooded hills and islands are best understood from a selected lake route rather than a single viewpoint. Songguang Pier provides an established starting point, with named features extending into the lake towards Wuhu Island and beyond. Choose a currently operating cruise or shore section and confirm its return arrangements; the entire reservoir is far larger than one sightseeing outing.

Songhua Lake is the reservoir of the Fengman Hydroelectric Station, formed by damming the Second Songhua River (第二松花江). Construction began in 1937, and the reservoir started filling in 1942. It is the largest lake in Jilin province, with a surface area of 550 square kilometers and a maximum storage capacity of 10.8 billion cubic meters. In 1988 the State Council designated it a National Key Scenic Area (全国重点风景区).

What to look for

  • The reservoir's branching shorelines and wooded hills viewed from the Songguang area.
  • Island and rock-landform scenery along the operating lake route, such as the approach towards Wuhu Island.

The surrounding area

A different city from Changchun, with a Songhua riverfront and weather-dependent winter rime.

Location & getting there

Getting to Songhua Lake

Use Songguang Pier in the Fengman-side visitor area southeast of Jilin City. The official scenic-area management address is Badong 1, Fengman Street, but confirm the actual departure pier for the trip booked.

General visit reminders

Allow room for the terrain and weather when choosing your route. Check the operator’s current trail, shuttle and cableway notices where applicable, and confirm the return connection before setting out. A broad landscape pin does not identify every trailhead or access point.

Combine your visit

Suggested order within this visit:

  1. Songguang shore and pier

Establish the lake's scale and confirm the chosen route.

  2. Operating island-view cruise sector

Compare the changing shore and island forms from the authorised boat route.

This is a suggested shore-and-water sequence. Island landings, exact cruise routes and return times depend on the operating service; no particular landing is promised.
