About Gunzhongkou Scenic Area
Gunzhongkou is a managed mountain visitor area in Yinchuan’s Xixia District, on the eastern side of the Helan Mountains. It combines climbing and landscape views with the historical setting of a mountain valley used over many periods. Its entrance is separate from the Suyukou forest park, even though both places often appear in the same western Yinchuan itinerary.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism documents organised mountain walking and sunrise-viewing activities at Gunzhongkou. Ningxia’s heritage planning also records Western Xia-associated architectural remains in valleys and on slopes here, including Qingyangliu Mountain. Those archaeological references establish a historical layer; they do not mean that an intact imperial palace survives or that every recorded ruin lies on a public visitor route.
Use the current scenic-area map to choose a marked ascent and compare the mountain slopes with the plain visible beyond the entrance. Where interpretation is provided, separate the evidence for an earlier building from the structures seen today. Seasonal events may add performances or markets, but a past festival programme should not be treated as the everyday itinerary.
What to look for
- Enjoy a marked mountain walk above the Yinchuan plain.
