About Guide National Geopark Ashigong

The county tourism bureau's page for the site describes it as a cultural tourism area in which a natural landscape whose main element is danxia landform and a human landscape built on earth culture set each other off. It says the danxia there is ancient and unusual, with peaks standing abruptly and strange geological forms, and that the rock shows seven colours, which is why the site is also called Qicai Fengcong·Xuanyuan Houtu (七彩峰丛·轩辕后土). The bureau describes the geopark as made up of thirteen theme squares devoted to earth culture and seven danxia gorges of different colours and shapes, and it names Nüwa gorge (女娲峡), Qianfo gorge (千佛峡), Tongtian gorge (通天峡) and the seven-coloured earth among the rare geological relics there.

A 2021 Qinghai Daily visit report carried on the provincial portal places the Qicai Fengcong scenic area inside the geopark in Ashigong village, Garang township, and calls it the geopark's core scenic area, repeating the thirteen squares and seven gorges and naming Nüwa gorge, Tongtian gorge, Wentian gorge (问天峡) and the seven-coloured earth among them. The two accounts agree on the structure of the site but not on one of the four named gorges: the bureau's page gives Qianfo gorge where the 2021 report gives Wentian gorge. Neither page gives the site a designation, an operator or an opening status, and the bureau's account of the rock's colour changing with the weather is its own observation.
