About Former Residence of Chen Yun

The site includes the main museum, an objects gallery and a corridor displaying reproductions of his handwriting.

The former home gives the historical subject a domestic setting, while the galleries present the official account of his public career. Compare these different forms of interpretation rather than treating the whole complex as one preserved house. The statue square forms a useful starting point for the visit.

The memorial was built on the site of the former Chen Yun residence and the Qingpu Revolutionary History Exhibition Hall (青浦革命历史陈列馆) in Chen Yun's home town of Liantang, and opened on 6 June 2000, the 95th anniversary of his birth. A bronze statue of Chen Yun was unveiled at the memorial on 8 June 2005, his 100th birth anniversary, and the museum began opening to the public on 10 March 2008. In 2013 it was renamed the Chen Yun Memorial (陈云纪念馆), while retaining the Qingpu Revolutionary History Memorial plaque.

The site was designated a Shanghai Cultural Relic Protection Unit (上海市文物保护单位) in 2002, and in 2017 it was rated a national first-grade museum (国家一级博物馆) by the China Museum Association. In 2015, on the 110th anniversary of Chen Yun's birth, an exhibition on his life and achievements opened alongside the new Chen Yun Cultural Relics Hall (陈云文物馆). The complex also includes a Culture and Creativity Street (文化创意街).
