About Shanhua Temple
The main hall preserves Liao-period architecture around later statues of the Five Tathagatas and attendant deities. In the Sansheng Hall, fewer internal supports leave the three central figures unusually prominent. The surrounding pavilions have undergone rebuilding, so the principal hall sequence is the most useful place to concentrate an architectural visit.
What to look for
- Sansheng Hall, with its three principal figures and relatively open interior.
- The raised Daxiongbao Hall, its timber roof structure and Five Tathagatas sculpture group.
