About Jiuzhaigou Valley
Its appeal comes from the relationship between water, minerals, vegetation and changing light, rather than from one isolated viewpoint. UNESCO recognizes both its striking scenery and its important forest ecosystems. The wider reserve provides habitat for threatened wildlife, although a normal sightseeing visit should not be presented as a panda-spotting excursion. Give the valley a dedicated part of a northern Sichuan journey. Looking slowly at shorelines, submerged timber and the transitions between pools is often more rewarding than rushing between photograph stops.
What to look for
- Shuzheng’s grouped lakes are divided by mineral banks and vegetation, with water stepping between them.
- The Rize and Zechawa branches offer distinct lake settings, including Five Flower Lake and the coloured pool.
Location & getting there
Getting to Jiuzhaigou Valley
Huanglong Jiuzhai railway station is an approach to the region, not the scenic gate. The park identifies Jiulv Yuexing as its official onward coach-booking platform for travel to Jiuzhaigou visitor centre in Zhangzha. Reserve the scenic visit and the correct coach connection separately; the same railway station also serves transfers towards Huanglong.
