About Dongpu Hot Springs
Dongpu is a hot-spring settlement in Xinyi Township, Nantou County, within a mountain landscape closely connected with Bunun community life. The springs are the visitor draw, but the village's public spaces also express local cultural identity, making the destination more than a row of bathing facilities.
The hot-spring plaza includes a public foot-bathing area and a white-deer sculpture. The deer design draws on a local Bunun story in which an injured deer encounters the spring. This is a cultural narrative attached to the place, not clinical evidence that bathing treats an injury. Stonework in the plaza also refers to the material language of traditional Bunun stone-slab houses.
These features offer a useful way to understand the settlement before choosing a particular bathing venue. Public foot baths, private hot-spring facilities and longer walks into the surrounding mountains are different activities, with separate access and preparation. Take time to see how the plaza combines water, mountain views and cultural references, then use the actual operator's information for the facility you intend to enter.
