About Douliu Taiping Old Street
Taiping Old Street follows Taiping Road in Douliu, Yunlin County. Its defining feature is a run of older commercial buildings with decorative, Baroque-influenced fronts. The street remains part of the city, so architecture, food shops and ordinary traffic share the same setting.
Look above the shop signs to compare the fronts of neighbouring buildings. Their upper-storey ornament gives the street its historic character, while the ground floors show how commercial use continues to change. A street view tells a broader story than an isolated photograph of one facade: the rhythm of shop widths and entrances makes the older shopping district easier to understand.
