About Babao Scenic Area
The Guangnan Babao Provincial Nature Reserve, established in 2002 and covering 5,232 hectares, is described by the Yunnan Provincial Forestry and Grassland Administration as having widely developed karst landforms of a type, content and scale considered nationally representative, alongside a rich and distinctive plant inventory and a deeply rooted rice-farming culture.
Babao town itself is known as the hometown of 'Babao tribute rice' for its clean land and rice-growing conditions, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; traditional and modern farming methods together form the area's rice-farming cultural landscape.
