About Hekou Border Port City District
According to the Honghe prefectural government, the Dian-Yue (Yunnan-Vietnam) railway opened in 1910, and of its more than 460 kilometres in Yunnan, 248 kilometres run through Honghe prefecture. Hekou railway station is the starting station of the railway's Yunnan section and one of its first stations opened, with a red-tile, yellow-wall building. About 50 metres from the station stands the China-Vietnam Bridge, the sole route for the railway's international through-transport; a boundary marker inscribed 'China' stands beside the bridge, with Vietnam on its southern end, and the Nanxi River runs beneath it.
According to Hekou county government, the district's 'exotic-style street' is built around several protected heritage buildings, including the China-Vietnam railway bridge, the former 1897 customs house site, and the former post-office building site. Nearby, Hekou Port Forest Park has been established as a national AAA-grade tourist attraction.
