About Lashi Lake Wetland Birdwatching Area
The Lashi Lake Plateau Wetland Provincial Nature Reserve covers over 6,500 hectares, with abundant aquatic life and favourable climate and ecological conditions that attract growing numbers of migratory birds to overwinter. Within the reserve, the Migratory Bird Bay (候鸟湾) sub-area, built in 2011 and covering 95.062 mu, is managed under stated principles of comprehensive protection, scientific restoration, rational use and sustainable development.
From November to February each year, black storks, greylag geese, grey herons and other species arrive in the tens of thousands; a 2025 Yunnan Daily report put the total at over 100,000 birds each winter, citing the wetland's rich and numerous migratory-bird populations as the basis for its listing in the List of Wetlands of International Importance.
