About Qianjiazhai Ancient Tea Tree Visitor Area
Near the Qianjiazhai management point of the Ailao Mountain Zhenyuan Conservation Bureau, the 'Tea King' tree stands 25.6 m tall with a trunk diameter of 2.82 m. Around it lies a wild tea tree community covering more than 28,000 mu, with 470,703 recorded wild tea trees of 5 cm or more trunk diameter and over 3,400 GPS-tagged large tea trees of 30 cm or more diameter in the Qianjiazhai area. The wild ancient tea tree is a national second-class protected plant, and the Qianjiazhai community is described by People's Daily's Yunnan channel as the largest, most primitive and most complete tea-tree-dominated plant community discovered to date, significant for research into tea's geographic origin and genetic diversity.
The community's associated relict flora, from families including Fagaceae, Magnoliaceae and Theaceae, are concentrated at named locations across the area, among them Qianjiazhai Shangba, the old cannon platform, the Big Hollow Tree, the head of the Big Hanging-Water Waterfall, Small Hanging Water and Daming Mountain.
