About Shaxi Ancient Town
This compact arrangement makes the former trading settlement easy to understand: religious buildings, performance space and commerce shared the same centre. Lanes lead from the square towards Yujin Bridge over the Heihui River, giving the town a quieter agricultural foreground. Concentrate on these linked spaces rather than treating the nearby Shibaoshan mountain site as part of the same short town walk.
What to look for
- Xingjiao Temple and the theatre frame Sideng’s central square.
- Yujin Bridge spans the Heihui River southeast of the historic core.
The surrounding area
Old-town streets and the Erhai basin, with Bai cultural context. Select a specific lakeside or city base.
