About Sigangli Cave
The Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism confirmed the Sigangli Rock Painting Gorge scenic area as a national AAAA-grade tourist attraction in its second batch of 2021 designations, as reported by Wenhui Daily. Within the gorge's core area, the report names Sigangli Cave alongside a sinkhole, the area's ancient rock paintings and a canyon known locally as a 'national-painting-style gallery' as natural scenery resources. Separately, Lincang Daily's 2025 reporting on Cangyuan county's ecological governance lists the cave, together with Wengding original-tribe village, Bange natural village and Hulu Xiaozhen, among the attractions through which the county has combined ethnic culture with eco-tourism.
The cave's local name of Sigangli was already in use by 2011, when a CCTV documentary crew followed caving researcher Zhang Fan and his team on a scientific survey of a cave and an adjoining sinkhole in Cangyuan county that residents called Sigangli.
What to look for
- the limestone cave passages and entrance that Cangyuan county residents call Sigangli
- the adjoining sinkhole that a CCTV-documented scientific survey team examined together with the cave in 2011
- the wider Sigangli Rock Painting Gorge AAAA scenic area surrounding the cave, which also holds the county's ancient rock paintings and a canyon known locally as a 'national-painting-style gallery'
