About Yunlong Tianchi Lake Viewing Area
The reserve's southern Tianchi block covers 6,630 hectares across Nuodeng, Jiuzhou and Baofeng townships, about 20 km from the county seat, part of a reserve established in 1983 and upgraded to national level in 2012. It lies within the Three Parallel Rivers World Natural Heritage area and the Southwest China mountains biodiversity hotspot, preserves original Yunnan pine forest, and marks the southernmost range of the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey; its wetland safeguards water security for the Tianchi watershed.
In December 2025 the reserve was added to the IUCN's Green List, a global standard for protected-area management, becoming Yunnan's first reserve on that international list.
