About Daciyan
Daciyan is a mountain and temple landscape in Jiande, Zhejiang, known for buildings fitted against a steep rock face. Its hanging-temple setting gives the visit a distinctive combination of Buddhist architecture, exposed stone and changing mountain views. This is the Daciyan site in Zhejiang, separate from the well-known Hanging Temple near Mount Heng in Shanxi.
Zhejiang's cultural authority traces the Daciyan temple tradition to the Yuan dynasty. It describes a structure partly set into the cliff and partly projecting outwards, with supports resting on the rock. The result is best understood by noticing where the building meets the slope, rather than simply looking at its facade. The construction should not be explained using the different support system of the Shanxi temple.
Follow the permitted mountain route and pause where a public viewpoint reveals the temple's relationship with the cliff. Steep passages and changes in level are part of this setting. Select a route suited to your mobility, and verify the operating status of any transport or elevated attraction separately. Weather can change the usefulness of a distant mountain view without removing the interest of the architecture itself.
