About Longquan Celadon Museum
Architect Cheng Taining combined curved, bowl-like volumes with narrowing cylindrical forms. The design grew from his response to ruined kilns and ceramic fragments in the Longquan region, using the museum's shapes and its relationship with the landscape to evoke buried celadon being uncovered.
Inside, the museum's thematic approach links the history of Longquan kilns with traditional making techniques and the modern revival of production. Displays such as Memories of Celadon and the section devoted to clay and fire give context for comparing objects from different periods and understanding the work behind their surfaces.
