About Underground Grand Canyon

The cave passage measures about 6,100 metres in total, of which roughly 3,100 metres has been opened up for visiting. Rather than a chamber system, the passage is cut as a gorge close to 100 metres deep, with near-vertical walls that open out to more than a hundred metres across in places and pinch down elsewhere to a gap only wide enough for one person. An underground river flows through it year round and drops over a series of falls, which the Linyi agriculture bureau notes is unusual among caves in northern China; a boat run of about a kilometre has been developed along it. Linyi municipal government counts more than a hundred named features inside, grouped as one river, three springs, five waterfalls and five 'palaces', among varied stalactite formations.

The cave is the core of a group of underground attractions in this part of the Yimeng mountains, occupying a site of some 32 square kilometres, and it is administered within a national 5A tourist area that also takes in the separate Firefly Water Cave, a roughly 1,200-metre cave holding a karst lake a short distance away.
