About Shimenfang Scenic Area

The Linqu county culture and tourism bureau describes Shimenfang as a landscape of winding ridges, green water and deep ravines with many historic monuments. The cliff-carved images of the Tianbao era are listed as a provincial key protected historic relic, and the bureau names a stone pagoda of the Tianshun and Xuande eras, together with three stone niches cut by an eminent monk of the Yuan dynasty, as sights known across the country. The site is registered as a national 4A tourist area and as a key scenic area of Shandong province. 'Shimen Wan Zhao', the evening glow at Shimen, is reckoned the first of the eight views of Linqu, and the county's own summary of the place is that it was famed in the past for that evening glow and is famed today for its red leaves.

The smoke trees are what draws people now: each late autumn their leaves redden right across the hills. The county reported in November 2025 that the peak red-leaf season attracts painters and photographers as well as visitors from elsewhere in China. A detailed plan for the Red Leaf zone of the Linqu Shimenfang Scenic Area, covering 2024 to 2035, was approved by the Shandong provincial department of natural resources and published by the county in February 2025.
