About Yangpu Riverside
Yangpu Riverside (杨浦滨江) follows Shanghai's Huangpu River through a district shaped by industry. Its public spaces retain evidence of former factories, warehouses and utilities while providing a route for walking and viewing the river.
The Yangshupu Power Plant remains, old waterworks setting, shipyard sites and adapted warehouses provide different examples of industrial heritage. Green Hill is another recognisable stop, bringing planting and public space into a converted building. Look for changes in materials, structures and river access to understand how production sites became places for public use.
A good visit follows one section and a few related landmarks rather than trying to cover every part of the district. Start with a named river access point and choose whether your main interest is architecture, an exhibition or the waterfront itself. The outdoor route and the buildings beside it are separate: a visible historic structure does not necessarily have an open interior or a visitor exhibition.
