About Fenjiu Culture Scenic Area
The Fenjiu Museum traces the distillery's development through documents, objects, drinking vessels, models and visual displays. Its themes connect local distilling with Shanxi merchant culture and explain the traditional production process. Fenjiu's traditional brewing craft entered China's first national intangible cultural heritage list in 2006.
The site's different workshops need to be read separately. A workshop recreated beside the museum demonstrates tools and manual methods modeled on Ming and Qing practice. The historic Xinghuacun Fenjiu workshop is a separate surviving complex with Qing buildings and an older well; the local government description identifies remaining production and well courtyards alongside courtyards whose buildings have been lost.
