About Beitou Hot Springs and Thermal Valley
Beitou’s hot-spring district occupies a geothermal landscape in northern Taipei. Thermal Valley, beside the hot-spring park, is one of the sources associated with the area’s bathing culture and is recognizable by steam rising above intensely hot water.
The valley is a viewing and conservation site. Its mineral history includes hokutolite, also known as Beitou stone, and official interpretation describes the protection of this unusual material. The visible pool should be understood as part of the geothermal system, not as a public bathing pool.
The surrounding hot-spring neighbourhood offers a broader setting for the visit. Separate bathing establishments and cultural stops can be combined with the valley, but each has its own access rules. This guide makes no medical claims about bathing or mineral exposure.
What to look for
- Steam and the valley pool show geothermal activity at the surface.
- Mineral interpretation explains the significance and conservation of Beitou stone.
- The nearby park connects the natural feature with the wider hot-spring neighbourhood.
