Fenqihu Railway Village 奋起湖

Fenqihu is a mountain railway settlement in Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County, at about 1,400 metres above sea level.

About Fenqihu Railway Village

Fenqihu is a mountain railway settlement in Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County, at about 1,400 metres above sea level. The station, old shopping street and surrounding forest paths form its visitor identity. Despite the lake-like name, the attraction is the mountain town and its railway landscape.

The settlement became an important intermediate stop on the Alishan Forest Railway. Steam locomotives took on fuel and water while passengers and workers rested and ate; the local railway lunchbox trade grew around that pause. A meal here therefore connects directly with the town's transport history, although today's vendors have their own recipes and menus.

The older Xiajiandianzai street predates the railway and road developments, showing that the settlement's commercial life has several layers. Nearby cedar-boardwalk routes offer a quieter setting among planted conifers. Compare these spaces with the busy station street: forest work, railway travel and local trade shaped neighbouring but distinct parts of Fenqihu. A station-area visit can be worthwhile even without a train ride, provided the road connection is planned.
