About Jibei Sand Spit
Jibei Sand Spit (吉贝沙尾) projects into the sea from the southwestern side of Jibei Island in northern Penghu. It is formed by the accumulation of coral fragments and shell sand moved by coastal currents. The long golden extension is a depositional landform, not a permanently fixed engineered causeway.
The tourism authority explains that seasonal winds alter current directions and therefore the shape and size of the spit. This makes its outline different from the unchanging triangle suggested by a single aerial photograph. Nearby Xikan Hill and the island's rocky coastal features provide a contrast between volcanic foundations and sand built up by the sea.
A visit is best understood as a beach-and-landform outing. View the transition from the wider shore to the narrowing sand, and notice how waves approach from different sides. Water recreation is separately managed and weather-dependent. The presence of sand above water does not establish a safe route to offshore rocks or unrestricted permission to enter the sea.
