About Jingzaijiao Tile-Paved Salt Fields
Jingzaijiao preserves a historic salt-field landscape beside Beimen's coastal settlements in Tainan. The salt works moved to this location in 1818, giving the site a long continuity of place. Its regular shallow pans and low horizon make the relationship between seawater, sun and manual work easy to read.
The term tile-paved refers to the material used in the crystallisation pans. Instead of a single large salt mound, the site presents a working landscape divided into smaller surfaces for solar salt making. Look at the arrangement of pans, paths and collected salt: the geometric view is also a record of labour and control of water.
This is a heritage and interpretation site whose visible condition can change after coastal storms. The tourism record retrieved for this review notes partial access during repairs following Typhoon Danas, so an old image does not establish which pans or activities can be reached now. Use the open visitor route to understand the salt-making setting, and confirm any hands-on programme before planning around it.
