About Liyu Lake, Hualien
Liyu Lake (鲤鱼潭) in Hualien is the elongated inland lake below Liyu Mountain at Chinan in Shoufeng Township. The name is shared by other waters in Taiwan, so the Hualien and Shoufeng identifiers are useful when planning. Here, the main scene is a calm lake bordered by wooded hills, with paths that offer changing views along the shore.
The visitor centre at the northern end interprets the lake's formation, natural environment and local Indigenous culture through models, images and exhibits. Around the lake, walking and cycling provide a land-based visit, while boat outings and stand-up paddling are separately organised water activities. The two experiences require different arrangements.
Seasonal firefly interpretation is another feature associated with the lake, without guaranteeing wildlife on every evening. For an introductory visit, use the north-shore interpretation first and then choose a shoreline section that suits your available time. Nearby Chinan forestry attractions add a separate woodland-history stop rather than forming part of the lake itself.

Getting to Liyu Lake, Hualien
Search for Hualien Liyu Lake in Shoufeng, not the similarly named reservoir in western Taiwan. Water activities require their own operator and conditions check.
