About Cijin Old Street and Coast
Cijin is a long, narrow coastal district beside the entrance to Kaohsiung Harbour. Its old street along Miaoqian Road combines temple life, food businesses and the everyday movement of a port-side community. A ferry approach makes the relationship between island, harbour and city especially clear.
The area around Tianhou Temple provides a cultural anchor for a walk. Seafood shops and the island's surviving tourist tricycle tradition show how older forms of local commerce and transport have adapted to visitors. The coast-facing side and the harbour-facing side offer different views, from open water to large vessels using the shipping channel.
Several nearby attractions belong to separate parts of Cijin. The former military passage now called the Star Tunnel, the lighthouse and the fishing harbour can extend a visit, but they should not be treated as one continuous old-street precinct. Choose a walking or cycling section that matches the available time, then compare the commercial street with the waterfront to understand how the sea shapes the district.
