About Taiping Suspension Bridge and Meishan Tea Country
Taiping Suspension Bridge crosses a steep valley beside Taiping village in Meishan Township, Chiayi County. The pedestrian bridge is 281 metres long and stands at roughly 1,000 metres above sea level, placing visitors above the winding roads and lower hills of the western Alishan foothills.
Its route links the Wangfengtai side of the village with Guishan across the valley. On a clear day, the wider view includes the Chiayi plain; cloud can instead close around the slopes and change the experience completely. The bridge's engineering and the shape of the terrain remain worth observing even when distant views are limited.
Taiping also belongs to a tea-growing landscape. The tourism authority pairs the bridge with the old street, tea-garden walks and locally arranged tea experiences, giving the outing a village and agricultural context. These are separate parts of a day in Meishan, rather than facilities all included in a bridge ticket. Choose a route that leaves time for the village instead of using the crossing as the entire visit.
