About Wufengqi Waterfalls
Wufengqi Waterfalls (五峰旗瀑布) occupy a wooded valley west of Jiaoxi, where the mountains rise from the Lanyang Plain. The name refers to five peaks likened to the triangular banners worn by a traditional opera general. Water descends through three waterfall stages, giving this short valley several different views rather than one isolated cascade.
The middle waterfall has a viewing pavilion, with the falling water framed by steep rock and green slopes. At the lower end, the valley feels closer to the plain; higher viewpoints make the enclosing mountain walls more evident. The progression between water, rock and forest is the main reason to explore the designated waterfall path.
Nearby routes toward the Marian pilgrimage site and the higher mountains are separate walks. Reaching the waterfall entrance does not mean that every upper trail is available or suited to the same visit. For a focused stop from Jiaoxi, concentrate on the waterfall sections currently authorised for visitors and allow time to appreciate the valley between them.
