About Sizihwan Bay

Sizihwan is a coastal setting on the Gushan side of Kaohsiung, associated with sea views, the harbour approach and the edge of the National Sun Yat-sen University campus. Its best-known public experience is watching the light change over the water from the designated viewing area.

The bay's appeal comes from the meeting of city and coast. Open sea, harbour structures and nearby hills occupy the same view, giving a different perspective from the commercial waterfront farther inside Kaohsiung Harbour. Clear weather can reveal a broad horizon, while cloud and sea haze produce a much more enclosed scene; a sunset is a possibility rather than a guaranteed performance.

The wider area also includes the former Chiang Kai-shek residence within the university grounds, a building originally constructed in 1935 and later adapted for other uses. It is a separate historic stop with its own access arrangements. For a simple coastal visit, focus on the public viewing route and avoid assuming that campus buildings, beach facilities and the entire breakwater form one freely accessible attraction.
